Message from Maggie:

We had a house full for Christmas eve and Christmas day and I wanted to wow them with a creative dessert.  Mr. Magpie insisted on a chocolate cake though.  I found this adorable idea for Marzipan Tree Cake Decorations over at Oh Happy Day and everybody won.  Hop on over there for the full tutorial.

Materials:

  • 2 boxes of marzipan (almond paste)
  • Green sprinkles
  • Pretzel sticks (Note: I used gluten free)
  • Cake frosted in white icing
  1. Pinch about 2” of marzipan off and begin kneading it in your hands.
  2. Roll into a tree shape.
  3. Insert pretzel into base of tree.
  4. Lightly dampen your fingers and then dampen the marzipan. (This will help the sprinkles stick to the marzipan).
  5. Roll the dampened marzipan into the sugar or sprinkles.
  6. Set aside and repeat. I was able to get about 12 trees out of one box of marzipan.
  7. Insert into cake and enjoy!

Allergens:
