Message from Maggie:

We are headed to Chicago this weekend and staying with my oldest and dearest friend Laura the first night.  We promised no Christmas gifts this year but I wanted to make something to give her as a hostess gift.

Materials:

  • Acrylic paint (red, green, + gold)
  • Plastic plate
  • Plain tea towels
  • Potato
  • Star cookie cutter
  • An iron
  • Ribbon

Instructions:

  1. Cut a potato into a triangle and another piece into a rectangle to create a tree stump.
  2. Squirt some green paint onto a plastic plate.
  3. Dip the triangle piece into the green paint.
  4. Press the triangle down firmly on the towel.
  5. Repeat adding green paint between presses until your towel is filled with green triangles.
  6. Dip the tree stump into red paint.
  7. Press the tree stump firmly on the towel under the green triangle to create a tree.
  8. Repeat adding red stump between presses until your towel is filled with complete christmas trees.
  9. Cut a star shape out of the potato using the cookie cutter.
  10. Dip star into gold paint on the top of each christmas tree.
  11. Once towel is completely dry, place a clean rag over the tea towel and using a hot iron iron the rag to ensure the paint sets.
  12. Fold and tie with ribbon.
