Message from Maggie:

This year I turned food into Christmas ornaments and used and reused a few simple things for a more sustainable wrapping job.

Materials:

  • Oranges
  • Oven
  • Parchment paper
  • Cookie sheet
  • Bakery twine
  • Scissors
  • Paper bags
  • Tape
  • Rosemary
  • Newspaper
  • Glue

Instructions:

  1. Slice the fruit into 1/4 inch slices and remove the seeds.
  2. Arrange the fruit slices on a parchment paper covered cookie sheet and place in a warm oven set to  170°F. Bake for 3-4 hours, flipping every hour until the fruit is dried.
  3. Thread bakery twine through each orange and tie the ends.
  4. Find the seam on the back of the brown paper bag and cut along it until you reach the bottom fold. Turn and cut around the bottom to remove the folded and glued portion and set aside.
  5. Wrap gifts in brown paper bag.
  6. Using twine wrap it around each gift a few times and tape the back.
  7. Slip rosemary and orange slide on the top.
  8. Make initial gift tags by tracing or cutting out each person’s name and gluing on each package.
