Message from Maggie:  It is my niece Addy’s 13th birthday this weekend.  I decided to do a play on my emoji cupcakes for her birthday cake.

Materials:

  • Cake ingredients
  • Frosting ingredients
  • Food coloring
  • Spatula
  • Squeeze bottles

Directions:

  1. Make cake. (Note: I used this recipe.)
  2. Make cake frosting. (Note: I used this recipe.)
  3. Determine which emoji you want to create.
  4. Determine how many colors you will need to create emoji. (Note: I used yellow, red, green, blue).
  5. Divide frosting putting majority into one large bowl and dye yellow- and then into smaller bowls for the other colors.  In this case I used black (using red, blue, and green) and red.
  6. Frost cake using the yellow frosting.
  7. Dye additional bowls of frosting your desired colors.
  8. Place colored frostings into squeeze bottles using spatula.
  9. Create your favorite emoji by carefully piping frosting onto each cake.
